Homemade Dishwasher Detergent Recipes
Four recipes to play with, let us know how you get on!
1. In the detergent drawer of the machine put:
3 DROPS Bio-D washing up liquid
Add sodium bicarbonate to 2/3 full
Add fine sea salt to full
2. One to make and store:
2 cups diced lemon (seeds removed)
3.5 cups water (in 1.5 and 2 cup portions)
100ml white vinegar
1 cup fine sea salt
METHOD
Cut lemons into 0.5cm chunks and place in a pan with 1.5 cups of water
Heat to a slow boil and then simmer for 20 minutes until syrupy, stirring frequently
Blend until smooth
Strain through a colander into the pan
Add vinegar and salt and stir to combine
Bring to a slow boil and cook for 10 to 15 minutes
Allow to cool completely (stir occasionally to incorporate crust that may form)
Place in a glass container for storage
Fill detergent compartment of machine for each wash.
3. Another to make and store:
2 cups liquid castile soap
0.5 cup water
1 teaspoon citric acid
(2 to 3 drops essential oil optional)
Place in a glass jar and shake. Store air-tight. Use 2 tablespoons in the detergent compartment per load.
4. ONE WITH washing soda - sometimes available at your local hardware store.
3 tablespoons washing soda
3 tablespoons citric acid
1 tablespoon sodium bicarbonate
1 tablespoon fine sea salt
Mix, store air tight. Place 1-2 tablespoons in the detergent compartment for each load.
