LIL STEPS

Our Lil Steps started in earnest with the discovery that most of the marine litter that’s found comes from the public -just to be clear, that’s all of us. And yet, we, that same public are constantly using the ocean’s resources: some 70% of our oxygen is produced in the ocean by tiny marine plants (phytoplankton). This unconscious consumption of resources and disregard for the consequences is scary and affecting us all everyday!

EVERY LIL HELPS!

Lil champions a better, more sustainable way to live. We are about our everyday choices and how they impact upon our local environment. We call this Lower Impact Living (Lil).

We sell natural, ethical, low waste (zero waste where possible) products to support planet-positive consumer choice. It’s quality and style that you can feel good about.  100% of Lil’s profits are then ploughed back into community initiatives to spread the Lil love: working with schools, community groups and partners to show that we are all part of a positive solution, every day.

GIVE A LIL

Lil has prevented 1 million bits of plastic from polluting our world.

We have also:

⦁ Attended over 100 events to help our environment: litter picks, beach cleans, nurdle hunts, mini beast hunts, seaweed specialists and alternative Christmas gift wrap, second hand clothes swishing, 1:1 individual consumer change through support and advice, corporate events and school visits, community workshops and public speaking.

⦁ Delivered hours of kids play in Lil’s pop-up mini beach, teaching the difference between natural and man-made, ‘beach cleaning’ plastic and nurdles (lentils!) and teaching their parents too.

⦁ Supported parents in getting the kids outside with the Lil Explorer programme whereby children receive a reward at a partner café for doing something for or in nature.

⦁ Avoided the use of disposable party ware through a subsidised reusable party kit hire scheme. Watch this space for more sharing schemes soon.

⦁ Created a FREE bench from our Haddington Hub so our local community can share food, preventing food waste - a huge driver of CO2e emissions.

⦁ Set up a buy one gift one plastic free toothbrush scheme. The gifted toothbrushes are given to East Lothian Foodbank for distribution.

⦁ Over 3000 zero waste shopping orders delivered helping the Lil community live a Lower Impact Life and reducing the 650,000 tonnes of carbon emissions that Scotland produces from grocery single-use packaging annually.
