Easy Coffee Body Scrub Recipe

Author: Karissa @ TheCrunchyChronicles.com

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup coffee grounds

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

  2. Scoop out a tablespoon at a time and apply to damp skin in a circular motion working in towards your heart to aid circulation.Take about a tablespoon at a time in your palms and rub in circular motions onto your skin. It uses about 3-4 tablespoons to scrub your entire body – except for my face. If you’re acne prone, Harissa doesn’t recommend using coconut oil on your face as it may clog pores.

  3. Rinse off and wash body as usual.

  4. Karissa recommends using a body scrub in the shower first thing before you wash with soap because there will be a slight residue left on your body that you will need to wash/rinse off.

Notes:

Will the coconut oil clog my drains? It’s definitely possible. I have never had this issue and recommend letting the hot water continue to run for at least 5 minutes after rinsing off the body scrub. If it is a concern for you, you can absolutely use a different type of oil (grapeseed oil is also great for skin!)

Be very cautious as the oil in the body scrub may make your tub or shower floor slippery.

Store any leftover coffee scrub the fridge (to prevent mould) and use the rest within two weeks.

Can I use this coffee scrub as a face scrub? You can, but I would use oil that doesn’t clog pores like hemp oil or grapeseed oil.

NOTE: As with any new product, homemade versions should be used with caution. Do not use them if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or have an existing skin condition. It is wise for everyone to carry out a patch test to ensure there is no reaction, especially if you have sensitive skin. If any irritation or discomfort occurs, remove the product with warm water immediately.
